THE APEX TIMES
A new mock draft pairing former teammates turns the “what if” of the pre-draft process into an early test of fit and timing for two lottery-bound franchises.
With the 2026 NBA Draft less than a week away, a fresh mock draft projection has Caleb Wilson headed to the Chicago Bulls and Henri Veesaar to the Cleveland Cavaliers. The premise matters less as a prediction that will necessarily hold up than as a snapshot of how draft-room expectations are starting to settle as the calendar narrows.
The mock draft framing also adds a storyline beyond team needs. The piece notes the possibility that Wilson and Veesaar, described as former teammates, could end up on opposite coasts as their careers move into the Association. That angle is the kind of narrative detail that often appears late in the pre-draft cycle, when teams and prospects are close enough to selection day for “how will this change their paths” to become a talking point.
Still, mock drafts come with built-in volatility. The projection itself underscores that nobody’s ordering is going to be perfect, pointing to the most common disruptors: trades, unexpected selections, and other surprises. In other words, even if teams are trending toward certain archetypes, the final order is rarely predictable, particularly in the days right before picks are locked in.
For Chicago, the mock draft’s main value is what it implies about the Bulls’ direction and how they could use a high-value selection in a way that is consistent with the team-building priorities they have been pursuing. For Cleveland, Veesaar’s inclusion highlights the Cavaliers’ interest in adding an element they believe can be developed into a meaningful part of their rotation. The piece specifically suggests there is more uncertainty around Veesaar than around Wilson, which indicates that his path to a specific landing spot could be more fluid depending on how teams react to workouts, interviews, and board dynamics.
It is also worth separating the “who lands where” question from the “what role they play immediately” question. Mock drafts can place prospects, but playing time, positional matchups, and development timelines are determined by the roster reality on draft night, not the order in a projection. That distinction matters because two players selected in the same range can experience very different first-year trajectories based on coaching plan and team composition.
What to watch next is confirmation from the final pre-draft process as the draft approaches. If Chicago and Cleveland are aligned with these landing spots, you would expect their pre-draft attention and public indicates to converge toward Wilson and Veesaar respectively. If not, the most likely alternative path is the standard one: an unexpected trade moves the target ranges and reshapes where prospects actually fit.
