The Los Angeles Angels announced they have declined the option in Kurt Suzuki’s contract and will pursue a new manager and coaching staff for the 2027 season, in coordination with Kroenke Sports & Entertainment.

The club said the decision was made after discussions about “the future of Angels Baseball and the direction of our organization,” with Angels Baseball Operations Consultant John Mozeliak delivering the announcement.

The Angels also reported that Suzuki has been offered a position to remain with the organization as a Special Assistant. The team noted that Suzuki previously held that Special Assistant title from 2023 to 2025.

In his comments, Mozeliak said Suzuki earned “tremendous respect” in the clubhouse and that the club does not view the team’s record that season as a true reflection of Suzuki’s abilities as a manager.

The Angels said conversations with Kroenke Sports & Entertainment about next steps will continue, and additional details will be provided as they are finalized.

Why It Matters

A managerial change can reshape the Angels’ day-to-day on-field approach heading into 2027, including how hitting, pitching, and game-management roles are staffed.
Offering Suzuki a Special Assistant position suggests the organization plans to retain his institutional knowledge even as it changes the manager-of-record.
The 2027 search creates an immediate window for candidates and can influence the timing and priorities of broader staff hires around the same time.
Because the announcement does not name interim leadership or next staff members, the club’s next steps remain an open question for supporters and analysts.
