Buffalo announced it is releasing safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson after six games with the team that included six starts, 26 tackles and an interception.
The Buffalo Bills released safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson Tuesday, ending his time in Buffalo after six games that included six starts, 26 tackles and one interception.
The Bills noted the roster timing tied to his one-game suspension in Week 8. Because of that suspension, Gardner-Johnson did not count against the 53-man roster the prior week, which allowed Buffalo to use the open spot to sign defensive back Te'Cory Couch to the active roster on Oct. 31.
With Couch already on the 53-man roster, Buffalo said it will keep him there while releasing Gardner-Johnson.
The move creates a new safety opening for Buffalo as it continues to adjust its defensive depth.
Gardner-Johnson’s release also closes a short tenure in the Bills’ secondary in which he was trusted enough to start every game he appeared in for the club.
