Browns bring Crucial Catch to University Hospitals, with players visiting pediatric and cancer care areas

On Oct. 13, Isaiah McGuire and Winston Reid, joined by other Browns players, visited University Hospitals to recognize Crucial Catch: Intercept Cancer and deliver Cleveland Browns-themed blankets to patients at UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital and the UH Seidman Cancer Center.

The Cleveland Browns marked NFL Crucial Catch: Intercept Cancer with a community visit to University Hospitals on Oct. 13, pairing player appearances with moments of support for pediatric and cancer patients.

Isaiah McGuire and Winston Reid spent time on the seventh floor of UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital, stopping into rooms and sharing Browns-themed blankets while talking with patients and families, including themed conversations about favorite colors, foods, and crafts.

The visit also included stops at the UH Seidman Cancer Center, where the team brought additional players into the day’s programming, including C Elgton Jenkins and RB Quinshon Judkins.

The Browns and University Hospitals have held annual Crucial Catch visits during football season since their partnership began in 2014, with University Hospitals serving as the Browns’ Official Health Care provider.

In addition to the Oct. 13 hospital visit, the team said it will continue observing Crucial Catch in October, including support planned for its Week 6 home game against the Baltimore Ravens and a University Hospitals Survivorship Bell Ringing tied to a pregame moment on Oct. 18.

Why It Matters

  • Crucial Catch is a league-wide NFL initiative focused on early cancer detection and risk reduction, and the Browns are using October home games and local hospital visits to keep that focus visible.
  • The hospital visits underscore how team community programming can align with player platforms, adding a local patient-facing component beyond awareness campaigns.
  • By building these events around upcoming home dates in October, the Browns are tying offseason and game-week momentum to ongoing cancer-related support rather than a one-day observance.
  • University Hospitals has been integrated into the Browns’ community work since 2014, making Crucial Catch a recurring part of the organization’s football-season calendar.
