The National Baseball Hall of Fame announced the Contemporary Baseball Era ballot for managers, executives and umpires, and Rangers championship skipper Bruce Bochy is among the eight candidates considered for the Class of 2027.
Bruce Bochy is in the mix for the National Baseball Hall of Fame’s Contemporary Baseball Era ballot for managers, executives and umpires. The Hall announced the eight-person list on Monday, with voting determining who will be elected to the Class of 2027.
The Contemporary Baseball Era ballot is evaluated by a 16-member panel that includes Hall of Fame players, Major League executives, media members and historians. Each candidate must receive at least 75% of the vote to be elected, and the results for the Class of 2027 are scheduled to be announced Sunday, Dec. 6.
Bochy’s case on the ballot is tied to one of the most decorated manager resumes of the modern era. According to the Hall, he won four World Series titles, including three with the San Francisco Giants and one with the Texas Rangers, and he ranks among MLB’s all-time leaders in managerial victories.
Bochy spent multiple stints guiding different franchises before retiring from managing after the 2019 season and returning for a final run with Texas. The Hall’s summary of his career notes that the Rangers won their first World Series championship in franchise history in his first year with the club in 2023.
The ballot also includes Sandy Alderson, Dusty Baker, Joe Maddon, Lou Piniella, Brian Sabean and Ted Turner, in addition to Bochy, reflecting the Hall’s focus on leaders whose primary impact came from the late 20th century forward.
