In a division matchup at Raymond James Stadium, Tampa Bay set a franchise rushing mark, with two backs earning career-high outputs and linebacker Alex Anzalone providing the defensive punch.
The Buccaneers’ Week 8 win over the Falcons featured a record-setting day on the ground, highlighted by Bucky Irving and Kenny Gainwell. Tampa Bay logged 324 rushing yards on 56 carries, breaking the previous franchise high of 283 set in Week 11 of 2015.
Irving paced the effort with a career-high 170 rushing yards on 27 carries, including a 46-yard run that set up a scoring drive. Next Gen Stats credited Irving with all 170 rushing yards after contact, as well as eight missed tackles forced.
Gainwell contributed immediately alongside Irving, matching the burst of the Tampa Bay run game with a career-high 140 yards on 25 carries. The team’s rushing output came in part from his change-of-direction skills and ability to stay decisive through contact.
Tampa Bay’s defensive standout was Alex Anzalone, who led the unit with six tackles (one for loss). He also recorded a career-high two interceptions, with both picks coming in the first quarter.
The Buccaneers’ performance did not only stand out in the box score, it reframed their recent stretch: Tampa Bay rushed for 200-plus yards in consecutive games for the first time in club history, and its 582 rushing yards across Weeks 7-8 were the most by any team in a two-game span in franchise history.
