Cam Rowston says he is entering his prime as he targets Abus Magomedov at UFC 333

The Sydney middleweight, now unbeaten in three UFC appearances and riding a seven-fight win streak, believes the middle stage of his pro MMA career is finally clicking as he prepares for a fourth Octagon appearance at UFC 333 on Oct. 24.

Cam Rowston’s case for “prime” is built less on age and more on momentum, as the Sydney native enters UFC 333 believing his best work is still ahead. The Oct. 24 card, headlined by Volkanovski vs Evloev, includes Rowston’s bout against Abus Magomedov, with Rowston framing the moment as the start of his most complete stretch as a professional.

Rowston, 31, has spent a decade as a pro after debuting in November 2016. His pathway back to the UFC included time outside the promotion, including an August 2024 decision loss to Torrez Finney on Dana White’s Contender Series, followed by a return through wins on the regional Australia and New Zealand circuit.

After earning another Contender Series opportunity, Rowston secured a TKO victory over Brandon Holmes in August 2025, which led to his UFC contract. Since making his UFC debut in September 2025, he is described as unbeaten in three Octagon appearances and extending his overall win streak to seven.

A central part of Rowston’s “prime” argument is the environment he trains in. He credited training at City Kickboxing in Auckland, New Zealand, and said he modeled aspects of his preparation after watching Israel Adesanya during Adesanya’s successful title run there, learning from techniques and fight-week preparation habits.

Rowston also characterized Magomedov as the most dangerous submission specialist he has faced, pointing to Magomedov’s eight submission victories, including two in the UFC. He described Magomedov as tall and lanky with an awkward style, noting that many of Magomedov’s wins come from control and finishing on the ground.

Rowston said his team has identified vulnerabilities in Magomedov’s skill set and believes it has produced a “gameplan” that can handle a well-rounded veteran. He added that a win could move him into the conversation for the top 15, and that he does not want to look beyond this fight before Oct. 24.

Why It Matters

  • Rowston’s comments frame UFC 333 as a potential ranking turn, with the preview indicating a win could place him in the conversation for the top 15.
  • The fight matches Rowston’s submission-preparedness against a veteran submission threat profile, a matchup that could test how quickly his current UFC momentum translates against elite finishing talent.
  • Rowston’s training emphasis on City Kickboxing and lessons drawn from Adesanya’s title-run habits underscores the longer-term development plan behind his current run.
  • If Rowston’s win streak holds, it would reinforce the UFC’s middleweight story of an ascending competitor building credibility inside the promotion rather than only in regional competition.
