Arizona’s latest injury wave sends rookie RB Jeremiyah Love and No. 2 WR Kendrick Bourne to IR, forcing immediate changes to the Cardinals’ backfield and receiving rotation.
The Arizona Cardinals placed rookie running back Jeremiyah Love and wide receiver Kendrick Bourne on injured reserve, a two-move shift that affects both the team’s offense and its next few weeks of roster planning.
The team said Love’s IR placement follows him hurting his right ankle again during Sunday’s game against the Cowboys. It was Love’s first game back after missing time while resting a different ankle injury, and the team indicated this latest ankle issue resets how long he will be out.
Arizona also announced that Bourne, its No. 2 receiver, was placed on IR with what was reported as a broken leg. Head coach Mike LaFleur said the fear at the time was that Bourne’s injury could be season-ending.
To fill Bourne’s roster spot, the Cardinals promoted rookie wide receiver Harrison Wallace III from the practice squad. The team also re-signed veteran tight end Rivaldo Fairweather to the practice squad after Kenny Yeboah, who had been elevated for Sunday’s game, was placed on IR/Practice Squad.
The Cardinals’ release of defensive lineman Cam Horsley from the practice squad accompanied the IR moves, while the backfield picture shifted back toward Tyler Allgeier as Arizona’s top running option. The team also noted that Bam Knight entered concussion protocol, leaving his availability uncertain, and that Evan Hull remained on the active roster.
