Chiefs and OT Wanya Morris reportedly agree to explore trade options

The Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly willing to listen to trade offers for offensive tackle Wanya Morris. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Chiefs and Morris have “agreed to explore trade options,” a move that typically reflects a match-up between a team’s depth needs and a player’s desire for a larger role. Morris is said to be looking for an opportunity where he can play more in 2026.

Morris enters this discussion with Kansas City already being the only NFL organization on his résumé. A 2023 third-round pick, he has spent his entire career with the Chiefs, starting 16 of his 43 appearances. The tracking of his snaps and starts suggests a player who has been trusted in spells but has not maintained a consistent starting job over multiple full seasons.

His most substantial stretch reportedly came during the 2024 season, when he filled in for Kingsley Suamataia in the starting lineup. The Chiefs had made roster decisions and in-season adjustments that pushed Morris into a more visible role for several months. After that, however, the offensive line picture changed again, and Morris’ responsibilities narrowed.

The deeper context for his current position involves how the Chiefs have shuffled the lineup across the seasons. Pro Football Rumors points to the acquisition and subsequent injury of D.J. Humphries as a catalyst for shifting Joe Thuney to left tackle, which reduced Morris’ role in the immediate aftermath. Morris’ involvement during the subsequent playoffs is described as minor, a sign that he was not in the rotation at the time when the team most needed defined, repeatable depth.

Last season, Morris’ usage remained limited. He recorded a single start in 12 games, and he later landed on injured reserve in December with a knee injury. Those factors, coupled with the Chiefs’ offseason roster-building moves, appear to have pushed Morris further down the depth chart and into a bench role for the foreseeable future.

Competition has likely played a central part in the timing of this reported trade exploration. Before the 2025 season, Kansas City added free agent Jaylon Moore and first-round pick Josh Simmons, moves that Pro Football Rumors says effectively locked Morris into a bench gig. Earlier this year, Jawaan Taylor was cut, which created the kind of opening that often leads to a clearer decision for a veteran reserve, even if the end result was still a limited path to consistent snaps.
