Chiefs hold off Chargers, 22-6, to reach 5-0 and stay the AFC’s lone undefeated team
Kansas City built an early lead and used a defense-heavy effort, with Ken Walker’s two rushing touchdowns helping seal the win.
The Kansas City Chiefs improved to 5-0 on the season Sunday afternoon with a 22-6 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers, keeping them as the AFC’s only remaining undefeated team through six weeks.
Kansas City struck early, taking the lead on a field goal during its opening series and never letting Los Angeles regain control. The Chiefs carried that momentum into halftime with a double-digit advantage.
Tailback Ken Walker paced the offense again, adding 128 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Walker entered the game with 537 rushing yards through Week 4, the most by any player since 2010, and he extended that production against the Chargers.
Walker’s first touchdown, a 33-yard run on Kansas City’s second possession, was his league-leading seventh rushing score of at least 20 yards this season. He later scored again by punching through a pile of defenders for a 2-yard touchdown with under two minutes remaining in the second quarter.
The Chargers answered with a 23-yard field goal, but Kansas City quickly converted the momentum into points before halftime. After a Los Angeles three-and-out, the Chiefs set up a 50-yard Harrison Butker field goal, and a span that produced 10 points in 1:49 pushed the lead to the final margin.
Defensively, Kansas City forced two takeaways, recorded two turnovers on downs, and collected four three-and-outs while limiting Los Angeles to 259 total yards across 63 offensive plays. The Chiefs also totaled four sacks, with sacks credited to Ashton Gillotte, George Karlaftis, Chamarri Conner, Peter Woods, and Chris Jones.
In addition to the win, Kansas City received injury news early in the matchup. Offensive tackle Jaylon Moore left the game with a concussion, while tight end Travis Kelce injured an ankle but remained in the contest without missing time.
Next up, the Chiefs travel for a prime-time matchup against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday Night Football.
Why It Matters
- Kansas City’s 5-0 start keeps them in control of the AFC standings early, and they remain the conference’s only undefeated team through six weeks.
- The win also gives the Chiefs a 3-0 record against divisional opponents, an important early tiebreaker set.
- Walker’s continued production reinforces Kansas City’s run game as a reliable weekly advantage, not just a one-game spike.
- Defensive pressure and red-zone prevention were central to the result, keeping Los Angeles out of the end zone throughout the game.
- With the Seahawks coming to town next, Kansas City’s early-season identity is set for a national spotlight test.
