The 2026 Rawlings Gold Glove Award adds another defensive first to Christian Walker’s résumé, as the Astros’ first baseman was recognized for elite run-prevention work.
Christian Walker added a fourth Rawlings Gold Glove to his career, and it comes in his first season as an Astro. The award, announced as part of the 2026 Gold Glove recipients, honors the top defender at each position in the American League and National League based on voting from MLB managers and coaches (75%) and the sabermetrics community (25%).
Walker previously won three Gold Gloves with the Arizona Diamondbacks from 2022 through 2024. In 2026, he earned the first-base honor after tying for the American League lead in Fielding Run Value with 7, according to MLB’s Gold Glove rundown.
The Astros now have three first-base Gold Glove winners in franchise history, with Walker joining Yuli Gurriel (2021) and Jeff Bagwell (1994) at the position.
Walker’s win also places him among the active leaders at first base for Gold Glove trophies, as MLB noted that he joins Matt Olson and Paul Goldschmidt at the top of the current list for the position heading into the 2026 awards cycle.
This was one of many 2026 positional awards across both leagues, with MLB naming three finalists per spot (including the utility position, awarded for the first time in 2022) before the league-by-league announcements were made.
