Cloud trade groups ask EU antitrust regulators to order interim steps against Broadcom

CISPE teamed with four other industry associations to urge regulators to suspend certain Broadcom business practices while an EU antitrust review plays out.

Cloud infrastructure provider groups in Europe have asked EU antitrust regulators to impose interim measures on Broadcom as part of an ongoing competition scrutiny, according to a report by Yahoo Finance. The appeal was made by the Cloud Infrastructure Services Providers in Europe, known as CISPE, alongside four other trade associations, the report said.

Interim measures in EU competition cases are temporary steps regulators can seek while they investigate, aimed at preventing alleged harm from continuing during the review. In this case, the groups are asking for Broadcom’s “suspension” of some business practices, the Yahoo Finance report said.

The report did not lay out in detail which specific practices the groups want halted or what evidence regulators are weighing. It also did not specify the exact stage of the EU process, such as whether a formal statement of objections has been issued or whether the matter is still in a preliminary phase.

Broadcom, the report said, is the target of the request as a U.S.-based chip and infrastructure software company. Broadcom’s role in cloud ecosystems, particularly through semiconductors and related infrastructure technologies, can put it in the center of scrutiny when business practices are alleged to disadvantage competitors, customers, or specific segments of the market.

Industry groups representing cloud service providers have increasingly used EU competition tools to challenge supplier conduct that they argue can restrict choice or raise barriers to entry. By coordinating through CISPE and other associations, the filing underscores a strategy common in EU antitrust: seeking immediate, temporary relief to limit potential damage while investigators decide the merits.

The Yahoo Finance report also did not provide the regulator’s response or a timeline for any decision on interim measures. EU regulators do not typically comment on every aspect of an investigation publicly, and interim measures depend on how regulators assess risk of irreparable harm and the likelihood of eventual findings.

Why It Matters

  • If EU regulators grant interim measures, it could force Broadcom to change conduct quickly, even before a final ruling.
  • The request indicates continued regulatory attention on supplier practices that affect how European cloud providers source and compete.
  • For the cloud infrastructure market, temporary remedies can shift leverage between chip and infrastructure vendors and the service providers that depend on them.

Salesforce reported fiscal second-quarter 2027 results on Aug. 27, sending its stock up about 22.6% as investors reassessed worries that artificial intelligence would undercut demand for enterprise software. Jim Cramer, speaking in a market context reported by Yahoo Finance, argued those AI fears were overblown.
