Even after months of attention on improving the defensive side of the ball, a fan poll points to the offensive group as the area most likely to determine how well Dallas performs in 2026.
A new round of Cowboys offseason chatter has produced an answer that runs counter to the prevailing narrative. In a Yahoo Sports fan-style poll asking which position group worries people most right now, respondents pointed to the offense as their top concern heading into 2026.
The irony, as the piece frames it, is that the Cowboys have drawn heavy focus and public discussion around the defense, including what fans describe as a “full-on renovation” on that side of the ball. Yet when the question turns to which unit carries the most risk, the offensive side of the ball is where worry accumulates.
The poll itself is not a roster report or an injury update, and it does not function as a league evaluation. It is, instead, a snapshot of fan sentiment about what could matter most for Dallas’s season path. In that sense, the finding is about perception and pressure, not a formal forecast.
Within NFL team-building, that distinction is important. Fans can feel confident that one group has been upgraded while still believing another unit may be the most vulnerable to inconsistencies, execution problems, or simply the variance that comes with offensive production. That framework helps explain why a team can be “busy” defensively and still watch the offense become the center of fans’ concern.
For Dallas, the practical takeaway is that the offensive unit is likely to set the tone for how the fan base measures the season. If the defense is meant to be the focus of improvement, the offense becomes the lever for converting that improvement into wins, especially against opponents who can pressure quarterbacks or disrupt timing-heavy schemes.
What to watch next is whether the Cowboys’ offensive plans during the summer align with what fans are worried about. If offseason work and on-field development reduce the uncertainty that respondents expressed, the “offense worries” narrative should fade. If not, the poll result suggests the criticism will stay trained on the unit that must deliver when games tighten.
