Ahead of the next on-field step of the offseason, the Dallas Cowboys used a survey format to crowdsource the position group they should be most worried about, underscoring how thin margins can be when the roster is still settling.
The Dallas Cowboys are using this minicamp stretch as another checkpoint on their return to full-speed NFL football, and they are letting the public weigh in on what they should prioritize. Rather than focusing only on day-to-day practice observations, the Cowboys convened the fan base around a simple prompt: identify the position group that keeps them up at night heading into the next season.
The effort matters because team-wide concern is rarely about a single player. In the NFL, a “worrisome group” usually points to where depth, continuity, or execution risk is highest. Minicamp is an early stage of assembling those answers, when the coaching staff can evaluate roles, communication, and how quickly players integrate into schemes and lineups.
Dallas has been approaching the offseason as a mix of coaching and personnel work, a theme echoed in the way the Cowboys framed their minicamp milestone. The idea is not just that changes happen, but that changes create new questions. When staff members and roster members shift, a position group can quickly become a focal point, even if the talent is there, because chemistry and responsibilities have to sync up before training camp and the regular-season grind.
The survey format also reflects how modern roster planning is shaped by more than internal film sessions. By asking followers to pick the position unit they think is most vulnerable, the Cowboys essentially turn offseason debate into a real-time information filter. It is not a diagnostic tool in the clinical sense, but it can capture what fans perceive as the biggest gaps or uncertainties when the team is between full installation and full competition.
What to take from the Cowboys’ question is the process pressure that comes with each new season. Teams do not have the luxury of “hoping it clicks” everywhere at once. If the defensive line needs more push, if the offensive line has unsettled cohesion, if coverage assignments are too slow to communicate, or if special teams continuity is lacking, those are the kinds of issues that can turn into seasonal problems long before anyone can fix them with a roster move. Minicamp is one of the few windows where coaches can see early indicates before the calendar tightens.
Still, a fan vote should not be treated as a substitute for actual evaluation. The Cowboys’ most important offseason measurements remain on the field, including who is consistently performing at practice speed, how well units adjust during drills, and whether players can execute the same fundamentals under changing looks. A “most concerning” unit selected by fans may or may not match what coaches view as the true risk, especially if the question highlights a perception rather than a verified weakness.
Going forward, the practical way to watch this story is to see whether Dallas’ offseason emphasis in practice aligns with the public concerns being surfaced now. If the team later spotlights a particular group through usage patterns, drill emphasis, or the way units are structured in sessions, that alignment can offer a clearer picture of what the Cowboys are trying to stabilize before the next major phase. For now, the minicamp survey is a reminder that roster clarity is built through both evaluation and iteration, and that every offseason question eventually has to become an on-field answer.
