Dallas’ first-round rookie pass-rusher Malachi Lawrence suffered an ankle injury versus Arizona and is being evaluated on a day-to-day basis, with head coach Brian Schottenheimer indicating it could mean more than a short absence.
Dallas head coach Brian Schottenheimer said Monday that rookie outside linebacker Malachi Lawrence suffered an ankle injury against the Arizona Cardinals and could miss multiple weeks.
Schottenheimer described the issue as potentially “a little bit longer” and said the team would continue testing how Lawrence moves, while comparing his mobility to other injured players.
The Cowboys’ injury update also mentioned other players who had dealt with ankle trouble on Sunday, including tight end Jake Ferguson and cornerback Joey Porter Jr.
Lawrence, the Cowboys’ 23rd overall pick in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, played 38 snaps in Dallas’ 33-30 overtime loss to Arizona, recording four quarterback pressures.
Through eight games of his rookie season, Lawrence has totaled 13 tackles, three quarterback hits and a sack, and Schottenheimer said Lawrence has taken over one of the starting outside linebacker roles in the last three games.
With Lawrence expected to miss time, Dallas’ active outside linebacker rotation includes Rashan Gary, Donovan Ezeiruaku, James Houston, Von Miller and Tyrus Wheat, and the team also has Isaiah Land on the practice squad.
