CVS Health expands Salesforce AI agents to streamline member and provider call center support

The health insurer and pharmacy benefits manager will use Salesforce’s Agentforce Health to give call center teams faster, more personalized answers across Aetna and CVS Caremark.

Salesforce and CVS Health said they are expanding their partnership to modernize call center care for millions of CVS Health members, using AI agents built for regulated industries. The companies announced the expanded use of Agentforce Health, Salesforce’s healthcare-focused program that combines humans, data, and AI agents on a unified platform, aimed at reducing friction in member and provider interactions. The expansion was announced May 28, 2026.

Under the plan, CVS Health will deploy Agentforce Health on a secure call center platform to support its Aetna and CVS Caremark businesses. CVS Health said the platform will use AI agents to provide real-time insights so member care colleagues can resolve inquiries faster, while maintaining clinical integrity and oversight. Salesforce also said its technology will connect CVS data, as permitted by applicable laws and contractual terms, to help agents build a complete view of a member’s health profile when those colleagues are working across different CVS businesses.

CVS Health, which serves 185 million people each year, described the goal as enabling teams to address members’ issues in a single interaction where possible and appropriate. The collaboration is also intended to improve the experience for providers, with the release citing 1.5 million providers. By giving AI agents access to the information they need, CVS Health said it expects to reduce back-and-forth and deliver a more personalized experience during calls.

CVS Health positioned the update as part of its broader push toward more connected, accessible healthcare at the moment members reach out for help. Pushpendu Pal, senior vice president and chief digital technology officer at CVS Health, said the company’s purpose is to simplify health care one person, one family and one community at a time, and that “responsible use of AI” is meant to unlock more accessible experiences and empower colleagues during every moment of a member’s journey.

Salesforce executives framed the expansion as shifting routine work away from call center staff so they can focus on higher-value support. Amit Khanna, senior vice president and general manager of Agentforce Health at Salesforce, said Agentforce Health helps CVS Health’s call center strategy by creating a seamless experience and automating routine tasks, which he said allows colleagues to focus on higher-value work and enable more meaningful one-on-one time with every member.

The companies said they have worked together for more than a decade to build a centralized call center service solution for CVS Health, using Agentforce Health and Agentforce Service, another Salesforce offering referenced in the announcement. They also said Slack is used so call center teams can communicate in real time and stay aligned while serving members and providers. Salesforce described the current rollout as an evolution of that approach into AI-driven call center care.

Salesforce added that the expansion represents its largest Agentforce deal to date across regulated industries. The companies also linked the call center effort to broader system coordination, saying the project can reduce fragmentation in the U.S. health system by supporting an integrated member experience. CVS Health said Salesforce employees who are customers of Aetna and CVS Caremark will also experience the benefits of the expanded collaboration, underscoring the partnership’s internal reach.

To understand what Agentforce Health is designed to do in practical terms, Salesforce characterizes its health platform as part of its broader Agentforce strategy, which centers on enabling software agents alongside human workers. On Salesforce’s healthcare platform materials, it describes Agentforce 360 for Health and “unlock[ing] limitless assistive AI” purpose-built for health cloud environments. In the CVS deployment, the emphasis is on giving call center colleagues real-time guidance and a fuller member view, subject to legal and contractual permissions for data access.

What remains unclear is how quickly the expanded platform will be rolled out across call centers, which specific workflows will be automated first, and what performance targets CVS Health expects to hit, such as call resolution times, call deflection rates, or quality measures tied to clinical oversight. The announcement also does not break out the scope of AI agents by function, volume, or geographic deployment. Those details are important given the regulated nature of healthcare and the release’s emphasis that data access is limited by applicable laws and client contracts.

For readers tracking enterprise AI deployments in healthcare, the next question is whether CVS Health expands the approach beyond Aetna and CVS Caremark and how it measures success. CVS Health’s scale, including a large retail pharmacy footprint and significant health plan membership reported as of March 31, 2026, suggests the integration could have measurable impact on customer service operations if adoption and governance are executed effectively.

Why It Matters

  • Healthcare call centers are a high-volume, high-complexity touchpoint, and AI agents that can assemble context may reduce repeat contacts and improve first-call resolution.
  • The announcement reinforces a competitive push by software vendors into regulated-industry deployments, with Salesforce describing the expansion as its largest Agentforce deal across regulated industries to date.
  • The use of shared data context across different insurance brands within the same enterprise highlights how “fragmentation” can be addressed operationally, even when clinical decisions still require human accountability.
