deGrom steadies Rangers, four homers lift Texas past Guardians 10-0 to claim series

Texas rode Jacob deGrom’s control early and never let Cleveland settle in, taking the series finale 10-0 at Globe Life Field. The Rangers, listed at 32-33 entering play, needed just one dominant stretch to flip the narrative of the matchup, then added insurance through the middle innings and bullpen to finish with a sixth shutout of the season.

DeGrom (5-4) limited the Guardians’ damage by allowing only three singles over six innings while racking up six strikeouts, including a sequence that ended with the last four batters he faced. He also issued two walks, a rarity in a start that quickly turned into a one-sided series story.

The Rangers’ offense came out swinging against Joey Cantillo. Justin Foscue delivered the first of Texas’ four homers with a two-run shot, and the lineup kept producing after that, turning the third and fourth innings into a long evening for the Guardians. Josh Jung followed with a solo homer, while Ezequiel Duran added a two-run double as Texas pushed the lead into double digits.

Wyatt Langford and Michael Helman then made sure Cleveland never had a clean path back. Langford’s homer extended the lead again in the fourth inning, and Helman later added another solo blast during the Rangers’ late-inning surge. In all, MLB’s game highlights show Texas scoring repeatedly from the third inning onward, with additional RBI hits by players such as Jake Burger, Evan Carter, and Duran.

Cleveland managed no runs in the finale, part of what Washington’s Associated Press report described as Cleveland being held scoreless for the sixth time. Cantillo struck out seven in five innings, but the first three Texas home runs gave Texas the kind of cushion that Cleveland’s lineup could not claw back.

The back end of Texas’ pitching staff finished the shutout with help from Peyton Grey, Tyler Alexander, and Luis Curvelo, who each played a role after deGrom exited. The Rangers, according to the same report, took two of three games against Cleveland and posted three consecutive series wins for the first time this season.

Entering Sunday, the Guardians were positioned to press in the AL Central, and the pregame matchup coverage noted they were looking to extend a two-game division lead. Instead, Texas used the series finale as a statement win, and Cleveland now has to reset its pitching and lineup decisions after a complete shutout loss.
