Delta and the Braves unveil Gate A25 tribute to Hall of Famer Andruw Jones at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson
The dedication at Terminal A marks Andruw Jones’ 2026 National Baseball Hall of Fame induction and highlights a nearly six-decade partnership between Delta Air Lines and Major League Baseball’s Atlanta Braves.
Delta Air Lines and the Atlanta Braves have turned a routine airport waypoint into a baseball landmark. On July 17, the two organizations dedicated Gate A25 at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to Andruw Jones, the Hall of Fame outfielder whose Atlanta career spanned 12 seasons and featured the number 25.
The ceremony, held at Terminal A, included a ribbon cutting and the unveiling of a permanent commemorative plaque at Gate A25. Delta said the plaque will remain installed, featuring memorabilia from Jones’ Braves years, along with Delta and Braves items from the 1990s and early 2000s that evoke the player’s era in Atlanta.
Jones, described by Delta as one of baseball’s greatest and a beloved figure in Atlanta, wore No. 25 throughout his Braves career. The dedication is timed to coincide with his 2026 National Baseball Hall of Fame induction, the airline said, framing the gate tribute as a celebration of the full arc of a career that began with one of baseball’s most memorable World Series appearances.
Delta CEO Ed Bastian attended the event and tied the airport tribute to the airline’s identity in Atlanta. In remarks included in Delta’s announcement, Bastian said Jones is a legend in the city and baseball history, adding that Delta is “Atlanta’s hometown airline” and that it is proud to honor Jones with a permanent tribute.
Braves leadership also took part. Derek Schiller, Braves President and CEO, said Delta has been a valued partner since the Braves arrived in Atlanta in 1966 and that the gate dedication deepens the relationship through a “meaningful opportunity.” Schiller also credited Delta with safety and service for travel during the season, and characterized Gate A25 as a lasting celebration of both the partnership and Jones’ impact on the team and city.
The Delta-Braves relationship is anchored by a long-running sponsorship and airline partnership. Delta said the organizations have been partners since the franchise moved to Atlanta in 1966 and that they extended the agreement through the 2035 season. Delta also said it remains the “Official Airline Partner” of the Braves as part of that longer-term arrangement.
Beyond the latest gate dedication, Delta described multiple ways it has supported Braves fans and team travel across the nearly 60 years of the partnership. The airline said it has flown the Braves to away games and has created fan experiences at Truist Park, including the Delta SKY360° Club, a 17,000-square-foot premium hospitality space behind home plate.
Delta also pointed to a fan-facing landmark tied to the Braves home environment: the Delta Parking Deck, which it said is marked by a 25-foot Delta tailfin visible to fans arriving for games. The company’s Braves-themed gestures have extended to aircraft branding as well, with Delta citing commemorative planes dedicated to Braves legends including Hank Aaron, Bobby Cox, and Chipper Jones, and a World Champions plane following Atlanta’s 2021 World Series title.
While the ceremony underscored Delta’s local brand connection, the announcement did not lay out any commercial details such as the financial terms of the extended partnership or the operational cost of installing the plaque and memorabilia. It also did not specify whether the dedication is part of a broader program for airport brand activations across the network, limiting how far the move can be interpreted beyond this Atlanta location.
Why It Matters
- The dedication reinforces Delta’s hometown positioning in Atlanta through a high-visibility, transit-based brand moment tied to a major sports milestone.
- By linking the gate tribute to the Hall of Fame induction, the airline and Braves are using an expected national news event to deepen local fan engagement.
- The move indicates how corporate sponsorships are evolving from signage and travel perks into more permanent, place-based fan experiences.
- For Delta, the airport location helps brand presence reach travelers who may not attend games, extending partnership awareness beyond the stadium.
