Derrick Henry’s message after Ravens’ Cleveland loss: the mistake is on me
After Baltimore fell 13-10 in Cleveland, Derrick Henry said in the locker room that he took personal responsibility for the play that swung momentum, even as the Ravens’ offense struggled to sustain drives.
The Ravens’ offense failed to turn early momentum into a win in Cleveland, and Derrick Henry addressed the locker room loss by taking ownership for a late-game fumble.
Baltimore opened the game with back-to-back scoring drives and built a 10-point lead. From there, the offense stalled for much of the rest of the way, including a stretch that produced seven punts over their next nine drives.
Henry’s fourth-quarter fumble came at the point when Baltimore could not afford another swing of momentum. The turnover helped set up a Browns touchdown that tied the game as Cleveland erased the deficit late.
Henry said that he told his teammates “I put this on me,” adding that he has to be better and take care of the ball to avoid putting the team in harm’s way.
Cleveland’s defense also factored into the Ravens’ difficulty sustaining their ground game. Baltimore tried to lean on Henry and its running attack, but Henry finished with 58 yards on 17 carries, a season-low, and the Ravens did not consistently keep blocks and angles working in the run game.
With Lamar Jackson sidelined again by an ankle issue, Tyler Huntley made his second straight start. Huntley went 19-of-31 for 165 yards and a touchdown, and he connected with Zay Flowers on a 31-yard gain near the end of the third quarter, but Baltimore also produced self-inflicted errors, including a sack and a fumble that pushed the offense into long-yardage downs.
Even when the Ravens reached scoring opportunities in the second half, they could not finish cleanly. Tyler Loop missed a 49-yard field goal that would have extended the lead, and Baltimore’s margin for error stayed thin in a defensive, one-score game.
Why It Matters
- The loss tightens the margin for Baltimore in a game where early points did not translate into sustained offensive control.
- Henry’s public accountability highlights how critical ball security and run-game consistency are when the quarterback situation shifts.
- With Huntley operating without Lamar Jackson again, Baltimore’s ability to avoid self-inflicted errors becomes even more important to keep games from swinging late.
