Derrik Maye earns Packers High School Coach of the Week honor as Peshtigo chases first playoff win in 17 years
In his first season as head coach, Derrik Maye has reshaped Peshtigo High School football into a playoff-ready program, positioning the Bulldogs for Level 1 of the WIAA postseason.
The Green Bay Packers have named Derrik Maye of Peshtigo High School as their High School Coach of the Week, recognizing a turnaround effort ahead of Level 1 of the WIAA Playoffs.
Maye, in his first season as head coach, has the Bulldogs seeking their first playoff win since 2009. Peshtigo finished the regular season 5-4 in a tough Packerland Conference, after winning just six games combined over the previous three seasons.
The Packers’ announcement credits Maye’s focus on a positive, accountability-driven team culture. In the release, Maye said the program worked to bring “the fun back” to football before raising standards and emphasizing that players should be accountable for every play.
Maye’s coaching approach also involves tailoring roles to players rather than forcing them into a set mold, according to the Packers’ release. He and his staff are also described as building connections through community involvement, including a YMCA Kids Day event where the team played flag football with local youth.
On the program side, the release says Maye oversees a 30-player roster in which all players have the opportunity to suit up for varsity games. His staff includes Jordan Riebe, Max Neumann, Zack Neumann, Casey Bruso, Joe Sparks, and Tyler Marquardt.
The announcement adds that Maye is a native of Peshtigo, graduated from Peshtigo High School in 2013, played running back for the Bulldogs, and later returned to the school as an assistant coach before being named varsity head coach prior to the 2026 season. Outside football, he serves his community in law enforcement as a detective for the Marinette Police Department.
