Disney outlines new theme-park and guest-experience projects at D23’s sold-out Experiences Showcase
At the Anaheim Convention Center and Honda Center, Disney Experiences leadership previewed multiple attraction upgrades worldwide, including changes tied to Tomorrowland, Journey Into Imagination, and Expedition Everest, alongside entertainment and behind-the-scenes reveals.
Disney used the third day of D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event to give a sold-out crowd a closer look at what it says is coming next for Disney Experiences, a unit that covers parks, attractions, cruises, and related guest offerings. The Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase culminated Saturday at the Honda Center, with Disney executives and Imagineers presenting new details on projects already underway across Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney World Resort, and Disney’s international parks.
The showcase, hosted by Neil Patrick Harris, mixed project updates with performances and celebrity appearances. Disney said leaders, Imagineers, and storytellers “unveiled exciting new details,” shared behind-the-scenes stories, and offered fans “exclusive first looks” at plans the company is preparing for guests in multiple regions.
Disney also framed the event around the role of audio-animatronics, one of the company’s signature technologies for lifelike figures in attractions. The evening opened with a tribute hosted by Harris to Disney Audio-Animatronics, a segment Disney positioned as emblematic of how it turns narrative into physical experiences guests can walk through.
On the attraction front, Disney highlighted a set of announcements spanning multiple parks and IP franchises. The company said the Yeti character will return to Expedition Everest, with Disney describing the plan as bringing the Yeti back to life. It also said Journey Into Imagination at EPCOT will receive a complete reimagining featuring Figment and the return of Dreamfinder.
Disney’s preview extended beyond Florida and Southern California. The company said a reimagining of Tomorrowland at Disneyland Park is planned, and it also pointed to updates across Walt Disney World and Disneyland, including a “Cars”-themed area and Villains Land at Walt Disney World Resort, along with a Coco attraction and an Avengers Campus expansion at Disneyland Resort.
International expansions were also a major part of the presentation. Disney said it will add a Lion King-themed area in Paris, and it referenced new Marvel experiences in Hong Kong and Shanghai. In Tokyo, Disney said it is reimagining Space Mountain as part of the next wave of park upgrades.
Beyond attractions, Disney’s Saturday program included fan-facing events at the Anaheim Convention Center. The day began with D23 Mousequerade: The Ultimate Disney Costume Contest presented by AT&T, with guests showcasing costume designs created by attendees. Disney said the convention floor also offered panels, pavilions, immersive activations, shopping, and programming tied to films and series across generations, including Camp Rock 3, Bluey, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, and Scrubs, among others.
While Disney’s showcase provided a range of project names and broad descriptions, the company did not provide detailed engineering timelines, budgets, or the specific creative changes for each attraction during the event summary. Disney directed fans to the Disney Parks Blog for full details of the announcements, suggesting that additional specifics may be posted separately by park or project rather than included in the stage presentation.
Still, the scale and geographic spread of the preview underscored a clear message: Disney is treating parks and guest experiences as an engine for recurring engagement, not just a backdrop for its screen content. With the Experiences Showcase spanning from U.S. resorts to Europe and Asia, the company is indicating that its next creative cycle for theme parks will continue to lean on major franchises, signature technologies like audio-animatronics, and multi-year reimaginings designed to draw repeat visits.
Why It Matters
- Theme-park reimaginings are typically core to Disney Experiences revenue because they drive guest visits, merchandise sales, and paid upgrades tied to specific attractions and lands.
- The announcement of projects across multiple resorts and countries suggests Disney is prioritizing a synchronized, multi-market pipeline of new content to sustain demand.
- By emphasizing audio-animatronics and character-driven updates, Disney is reinforcing differentiation in physical guest entertainment, which can be a key competitive advantage versus generic attractions.
