Disney Shows New Footage for “Hexed” at Annecy, Premieres Theatrical Short “Lilo & Scratch”

At the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, Disney unveiled fresh “Hexed” footage and debuted a surprise theatrical short set after the 2002 film “Lilo & Stitch,” featuring Stitch and a new cat character.

Disney brought two new animation releases to the Annecy International Animation Film Festival on Friday, including fresh footage from its upcoming project “Hexed” and the premiere of a surprise theatrical short, “Lilo & Scratch,” that features Stitch.

According to Deadline, Disney showed the new “Hexed” footage at Annecy, as the festival continued its coverage of major studio releases and high-profile creators.

On the same day, Disney also premiered “Lilo & Scratch,” described as a surprise theatrical short starring a Disney character franchise tied to “Lilo & Stitch.” The short is credited to Chris Sanders, whose involvement was highlighted in the festival presentation.

“Lilo & Scratch” is set to pick up after the original 2002 animation “Lilo & Stitch,” continuing the story world established by the earlier film.

Deadline reports that the short co-stars Stitch alongside a new cat character. The new character is described as having an intention related to eating Stitch, which becomes part of the short’s premise.

Disney’s presentation at Annecy therefore combined festival-facing content for “Hexed” with an unexpected big-screen addition aimed at expanding the reach of the “Lilo & Stitch” property.

Details on broader release dates, distribution plans, and full creative credits for “Hexed” and “Lilo & Scratch” were not included in the Deadline report, leaving additional specifics to follow from Disney and festival materials.

As Annecy continues, additional announcements are likely to emerge through scheduled screenings, press materials, and follow-up coverage of the two projects shown during the Friday presentations.

Why It Matters

  • Festival screenings like Annecy can shape early industry awareness and press attention for upcoming animated projects.
  • A surprise theatrical short linked to a well-known family franchise may widen audience reach beyond streaming or home entertainment, depending on how it is scheduled for theaters.
  • The “Lilo & Stitch” sequel framing introduces new character dynamics that could influence future franchise development and marketing.
  • The Friday Annecy timing places both projects in the same visibility window, potentially concentrating coverage for Disney’s animation slate.
