Falcons add DE Charles Snowden to active roster after signing him off Commanders practice squad
Atlanta moves quickly to bolster its defensive end group, signing Charles Snowden from Washington’s practice squad and freeing an active-roster spot by releasing Bralen Trice.
The Atlanta Falcons signed defensive end Charles Snowden to the active roster off the Washington Commanders’ practice squad, according to the team. The move answers the question of whether Atlanta will keep Snowden in Washington’s developmental pipeline or bring him to the 53-man roster, and the Falcons chose the latter.
Snowden had been with Washington since the end of September and, before that, had spent time on practice squads with multiple teams, including the Dallas Cowboys, Las Vegas Raiders, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He is a Virginia alum who originally entered the league as an undrafted free agent, signed by the Chicago Bears in 2021.
Atlanta created the roster space for the signing by releasing defensive end Bralen Trice, per the Falcons’ explanation of how the practice-squad-to-active-roster signing process works under league rules.
Why It Matters
- The signing immediately changes Atlanta’s defensive end depth by adding a player already in-game-ready system work with another NFL club.
- Because the move requires an active-roster spot, it also indicates that Atlanta is actively managing its rotation rather than leaving the position group static.
- Snowden’s practice-squad experience across multiple teams suggests he has worked through different defensive looks, which can matter for late-season matchup flexibility.
