Falcons finalize Arctos limited-partner deal after NFL ownership vote
Arthur M. Blank announced Arctos, a KKR business, will join the Atlanta Falcons ownership group as a limited partner following approval by the NFL’s full ownership at League Meetings in New York.
The Atlanta Falcons have added Arctos, a business of KKR, as a limited partner to the team’s ownership group after the NFL’s full ownership approved the arrangement at League Meetings in New York on Oct. 20, 2026.
Arctos’ initial purchase is for a 7.5 percent stake in the Falcons, with an additional 2.5 percent committed for a later date. That follow-on purchase is described as subject to a separate vote of NFL ownership when the second step is considered.
Team ownership says the agreement is effective immediately, with the transaction expected to close later in the month. King & Spalding served as legal counsel for the Falcons, while Kirkland & Ellis LLP advised Arctos.
The Falcons also said Arctos will join the existing group of limited partners, which includes named figures such as Brian Barker, Rosalind Brewer, Ron Canakaris, Dominique Dawes, Warrick Dunn, Doug Hertz, Alan Kestenbaum, Edward Mendel, Will Packer, Derek Smith and Rashaun Williams.
Arthur Blank framed the move as aligned with the Falcons’ core values and part of continued investment in the organization and its surrounding community, while Arctos leadership said it is joining the Falcons as the organization continues building on its legacy in Atlanta.
Arctos said it was founded in 2019 and acquired by KKR in 2026, and described itself as the largest institutional investor in professional sports franchise stakes globally and the only firm approved for multi-team ownership across all five major U.S. leagues.
Why It Matters
- Ownership participation can bring new capital and governance perspectives, with the Falcons describing the transaction as supporting strategic investment in the organization and community.
- The structure of an initial stake plus a later, vote-dependent expansion illustrates how NFL ownership approvals can be staged over time rather than fully baked into a single decision.
- The approval effective immediately means Arctos is part of the ownership group heading into the next phase of Falcons planning, even as formal closing is still pending later this month.
- For fans, limited-partner additions do not typically change day-to-day football operations, but they can affect longer-term resources available for organizational initiatives.
