Atlanta has parted ways with two edge defenders, including a player who appeared in seven games this season and another who was promoted from the practice squad to the 53-man roster on Oct. 24.
The Atlanta Falcons released defensive ends Jared Ivey and Drake Jackson as Week 9 approaches, according to the team’s official transaction announcement.
Ivey was originally signed to the Falcons’ 53-man roster after being claimed off waivers following the team’s late-August roster cutdowns. He appeared in seven games this season, totaling one sack, two tackles for loss, two quarterback hits and eight combined tackles.
Ivey’s NFL path began with the Seattle Seahawks, where he entered as an undrafted free agent out of Ole Miss. The Falcons’ release recap also notes his rookie-year snap involvement with Seattle and his college production at Ole Miss and Ole Miss-era backfield-playmaker profile.
Jackson joined Atlanta first on the practice squad in mid-September. He was signed to the 53-man roster on Oct. 24, after spending time on the practice squad.
In the Falcons’ season coverage of Jackson’s run with the club, Atlanta said he took reps in games against the Ravens and 49ers, and it also outlined his previous NFL experience with the Washington Commanders following his 2022 second-round draft selection by the 49ers.
