Buffalo’s 5-1 start sets up a Sunday showdown at Highmark Stadium where Baltimore must handle the league’s most explosive scoring attack, even as the Bills’ defense has been surrendering too many points.
The Bills are coming off their bye and enter the Ravens matchup at 5-1, with Buffalo’s only blemish in the stretch coming from a 29-26 home loss to New England in Week 4. The matchup is framed as a high-end AFC test at Highmark Stadium for both teams’ momentum and identity.
Buffalo’s case is simple on offense: it has scored at a league-leading rate of 32.8 points per game through the first six games. The Ravens’ challenge is that the Bills have also put up heavy scoring in the second half, averaging 15 points per game in that span and reaching 41 points in their last two games combined.
Under center, Josh Allen is the centerpiece again. Buffalo’s preview describes Allen as producing at an MVP-caliber level, leading quarterbacks in expected points added (58.6), and it points to his ability to manufacture offense with his feet as well as his arm.
The preview highlights the most damaging aspect of Allen’s running: production at the goal line and the capacity to create on scrambles. It states Allen leads the NFL in scramble yards in the Next Gen Stats era and has eight rushing touchdowns this season, including seven from inside the 2-yard line. It also notes his effectiveness includes a high career scoring percentage on such attempts (81.1%).
There is a tradeoff Baltimore can try to exploit. The Bills’ preview also points to “kryptonite” for Allen, including interception risk and ball security issues, citing eight fumbles over the past two regular seasons and a past stretch in which he threw multiple interceptions and lost multiple fumbles in a postseason overtime loss to Denver. That matters because Baltimore has to decide whether to attack the edges of Allen’s mobility or play safer while trying to limit turnovers.
Buffalo’s supporting cast comes with its own swing factors. The team’s running back, James Cook, is described as an explosive catalyst who leads in 10+ yard runs and has reached 95 rushing yards in four of his last five games, but the preview also flags that he leads all players in fumbles since the start of last season (10). On the receiver side, the Bills’ top wideout DJ Moore is noted as missing the past two games with a shoulder injury, while Keon Coleman is cited for a big production stretch versus New England.
