Both New York regulars began their return-to-game process with early contributions for Binghamton during a Friday Double-A matchup.
On Friday, New York Mets star shortstop Francisco Lindor and center fielder Tyrone Taylor kicked off their rehab assignments with immediate, tangible results for Double-A Binghamton. According to Yahoo Sports, both players came through in their first game action for Binghamton, getting hits as they worked through the early stage of returning to full competition.
The rehab start placed Lindor and Taylor in Binghamton Rumble Ponies uniforms against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. Lindor, leading off or batting first in the Mets-inflected lineup configuration described by the report, recorded a hit early in his return. Taylor followed closely in the batting order and also produced a hit, helping set a positive tone for their respective rehab outings.
For the Mets, this type of Double-A window matters even when the headline moments are simple. Rehab games are built around timing, contact, and the rhythm of playing multiple innings and confronting live pitching. Getting hits early indicates that both hitters were able to square the ball and find the timing needed after their absence, though it does not, by itself, define how quickly they will return to New York’s active roster.
Binghamton’s matchup also offered the players a more game-real environment than extended spring or lower-intensity workouts. In rehab assignments, organization personnel commonly look for steadiness under normal defensive and baserunning expectations, not just isolated at-bats. The report’s emphasis on both players impacting early suggests the Mets’ internal process was already producing results on the field.
Lindor’s role as a middle-infield anchor makes the recovery path particularly important for New York’s day-to-day balance. His presence affects how innings play out defensively, but it also influences the Mets’ offensive identity, since he typically shapes the approach at the top of the order. Taylor, as a center fielder, brings a different kind of value, including outfield range and lineup flexibility, which makes his timing relevant for the club’s ability to balance personnel across roles.
What to watch next is whether Binghamton’s rehab start turns into a sustained progression. The Mets will typically want to see the hitters maintain performance over additional games, while also ensuring their playing-time plan and readiness align with the roster needs in New York. Until the Mets provide further official updates, this Friday outing should be treated as an encouraging step in the return process rather than a final marker for a return date.
