The result capped a five-round welterweight fight in which Bonfim largely controlled distance, timing, and damage while Muhammad struggled to impose the kind of offensive rhythm that has defined him as a former champion.

The fight did not begin with the kind of mutual feeling-out that can slow a main event. Bonfim pressed forward early, taking the center and working behind a jab as Muhammad circled on the outside. Muhammad landed counters, including a right hand after Bonfim’s pressure, but Bonfim repeatedly answered and forced Muhammad to reset his feet rather than get comfortable in the pocket. Leg kicks became a recurring theme as the bout wore on, and Muhammad often appeared to have to adjust his stance or cadence after those strikes.

Bonfim’s control carried into the later rounds, particularly through his ability to land while staying out of range. MMA Weekly’s round-by-round scoring had Bonfim ahead in each of the first four frames, with the Brazilian continuing to pressure and returning to the same core ideas: jab to set entries, calf kicks to tax movement, and quick right hands when Muhammad stepped in. Muhammad did get moments in, including late surges that produced head-and-hand exchanges, but they did not add up to a consistent shift in momentum.

One of the clearest indicators of the fight’s imbalance came in how Muhammad tried to change the problem. After finding himself limited on the feet, he went looking for takedowns to start the third, but Bonfim shrugged them off and kept the fight on his terms. Later in the fight, MMA Weekly reported a combination that knocked Muhammad’s mouthpiece out, underscoring how cleanly Bonfim’s striking could connect when Muhammad’s offense stalled.

The official decision matched the eye test of a shutout. UFC’s official scorecards listed Bonfim as the unanimous winner with 50-45 marks on all three judge scorecards. It was a decisive night for Bonfim, who entered the matchup as the division’s No. 11-ranked contender and, according to pre-fight reporting and buildup, was riding a four-fight winning streak, with his only career loss arriving in November 2023.

For Muhammad, the loss was another blow in a stretch that had already included back-to-back defeats entering the bout. He came into the arena as the UFC’s No. 5 ranked welterweight and as a former world champion, but Saturday’s performance left him with a reputation risk and a need to re-establish a path back toward the top of the division. For the division itself, Bonfim’s shutout strengthens his argument that he can beat established contenders in full rounds, not just in isolated moments, and sets up the next question: whether the UFC can place him against a higher-profile opponent who can test him in a different matchup style.
