Jacoby Brissett shifts to emergency third quarterback after the Cardinals adjusted their depth chart following their recent win in Dallas.
The Arizona Cardinals have named Gardner Minshew II as their starting quarterback, with Carson Beck moved to the backup role, the team announced on Nov. 2.
The change also moved Jacoby Brissett out of the starting spot. According to the Cardinals, Brissett is now the team’s emergency third quarterback.
Head coach Mike LaFleur said the decision came after Minshew’s performance in the Cardinals’ game against the Cowboys, when he entered after one second-half possession and led a late sequence that included multiple scoring drives.
The Cardinals’ release said Minshew completed 17 of 23 passes for 188 yards and three touchdown passes in 34 offensive snaps, and added that the performance included a game-winning overtime field goal drive.
LaFleur indicated he spoke with the quarterbacks and other key players about the adjustment following the team’s come-from-behind win, which was followed by the depth-chart shift.
On whether Brissett would be on the roster past the trade deadline, LaFleur said his focus was on this week, and noted the deadline is Nov. 10.
