Google expands AI Mode in Search with flight price tracking, rewards pricing and hotel booking
Alphabet’s Google is adding three travel features to AI Mode in Search: price alerts for flights, the ability to see trips priced in points and miles, and direct hotel reservations through a conversational flow.
Google is rolling out new travel-planning upgrades inside AI Mode in Search that bring more of the booking workflow into the same chat experience. In a post published August 27, the company said the updates allow users to track flight prices, view the cost of flights and hotels in rewards points or miles, and book hotels through a single conversation.
The first major addition is flight price tracking inside AI Mode. Google said users can set up price alerts by describing where and when they want to fly, and then receiving email notifications when prices change. The feature is designed to work without forcing users to leave the conversational flow, and Google said it uses the latest prices from more than 300 partner airlines and travel sites.
Google said the price tracking experience is available in more than 180 countries and territories. If users decide they are ready to book, the company said AI Mode can help build the full itinerary in the same environment, after which ticket purchases are completed via the airline’s website or a preferred booking platform, depending on the available options.
The second enhancement focuses on rewards. Google said AI Mode in Search can now show the price of eligible flights and hotels in points or miles, using the latest data from partners. The company gave an example prompt involving redeeming American Airlines miles for nonstop flights between Atlanta and Miami on specific dates, but the underlying claim is that AI Mode will calculate the number of miles needed to match flight options and the points cost for hotels.
Google said this rewards-cost viewing capability is globally available, with initial partner support that includes Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines, American Airlines, Choice Hotels, Hilton, and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts. It also said additional support for Accor, Flying Blue, Hyatt, LATAM Airlines, and Lufthansa Group is planned in the coming weeks.
The third update is hotel booking through AI Mode in Search. Google said users can tell AI Mode about their upcoming trip and hotel preferences to get a visual list of options that includes guest reviews and comparison factors. After selecting a property, users can ask AI Mode for help completing the booking.
Google said hotel reservations can then be carried out through “Continue on Google” booking options displayed next to integrated partners, which include hotel chains and online travel sites. From there, the company said it is a short sequence of steps to choose a room type, review details such as the cancellation policy, and complete payment securely via Google Pay, with the hotel or booking platform acting as the merchant of record and handling customer service.
For availability, Google said hotel booking in AI Mode has started rolling out in the United States in English, with additional availability over the coming weeks. It listed initial hotel and travel partners for the U.S. rollout as, Choice Hotels International, Expedia, Hilton,, IHG Hotels & Resorts, Marriott International, Priceline,, and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts.
Google also said the features are available in supported AI Mode locations and languages, excluding EEA countries and territories, and noted that some features shown in materials may not be available in EEA regions. It did not provide specific timelines for expanding beyond the initial U.S. English rollout for hotel booking, nor did it detail whether all users will see every feature at once.
The company’s positioning suggests it is trying to reduce the friction of switching between search, fare-comparison tools, and booking pages. By combining price alerts, rewards pricing, and an end-to-end hotel booking flow inside AI Mode in Search, Google is effectively turning more parts of trip planning into a guided conversational workflow. That matters commercially because travel is a high-intent category, where users often move quickly from discovery to purchases and where small improvements in conversion pathways can influence demand between platforms.
Still, the announcements leave gaps that customers may care about. Google did not specify the exact mechanics for how itinerary-building handles fare rules, mixed partner airline conditions, or edge cases such as multi-city routing. It also did not disclose whether price tracking alerts reflect changes in total trip price, specific fare brands, taxes and fees inclusions, or how often the underlying datasets refresh. For rewards redemptions, the company did not detail how it handles availability constraints or dynamic award pricing behavior that can vary by inventory and program rules.
Why It Matters
- Travel has long been a high-conversion use case for search, and moving price comparison and booking steps into a single conversational interface could improve conversion rates for Google’s travel partners.
- Rewards pricing lowers a common planning barrier by letting users estimate the mile or point cost before committing, potentially increasing consideration for loyalty programs and airline and hotel redemptions.
- By integrating booking with multiple merchants while keeping the conversation as the interface, Google may strengthen AI Mode’s practical utility versus traditional search-result pages.
- The rollout indicates Google is treating real-time inventory and partner data access as a core capability for AI-driven planning tools.
