Intel bets on a purpose-built chip family for Windows handheld gaming
Intel has introduced its Arc G-Series processors, starting with Arc G3 and Arc G3 Extreme, aiming to deliver PC-level graphics features and longer unplugged play across upcoming Windows 11 handhelds from major OEMs.
Intel is entering what it calls the next phase of Windows handheld gaming with a new set of graphics-and-CPU processors branded Intel Arc G-Series. The company announced the family on May 28, 2026, describing Arc G3 and Arc G3 Extreme as handheld-first chips built for “smooth, immersive gameplay” and improved power efficiency. The processors run Windows 11 and are based on Intel’s Core Ultra Series 3 platform (code-named Panther Lake), a move Intel frames as an effort to bring desktop-style performance expectations into a pocket-size form factor.

P-cores are generally the performance-focused cores, while E-cores (efficiency cores) are used for background work and power-sipping tasks, helping a handheld balance responsiveness with battery life.

Intel says the processors include integrated Intel Wi-Fi 7 R2, dual Bluetooth 6, and Intel Thunderbolt 4 with Thunderbolt Share support, which Intel says can provide up to 40 Gbps. Intel frames this as a way to move large game libraries quickly and connect fast peripherals without relying on external docks, a practical concern for handheld PCs that often have limited internal storage capacity.
Intel’s announcement ties the silicon to a near-term ecosystem launch, naming several OEM handhelds planned around the new chips. Intel said handheld designs from partners will appear in the coming months, beginning with Acer’s Predator Atlas 8, MSI’s Claw 8 EX AI+, and a system from OneXPlayer. Acer’s own product page describes the Predator Atlas 8 as a Windows 11 Home handheld with options up to an Intel Arc G3 Extreme processor, reinforcing Intel’s positioning around the new platform. MSI similarly markets the Claw 8 EX AI+ as powered by the Intel Arc G3 Extreme processor, and highlights handheld battery capacity and an Xbox Mode experience.
