The longtime play-by-play voice for San Antonio’s television coverage is continuing in his role, extending his run with the Silver and Black for the foreseeable future.
Jacob Tobey is staying in San Antonio for the long haul. The Spurs television play-by-play announcer has signed a multi-year extension to continue calling games for the team’s broadcast, according to a report published by Yahoo Sports on June 20, 2026. Tobey made the announcement via social media, positioning the move as a continuation of his role rather than a transition to a new market or network.
For Spurs fans, Tobey’s voice is part of the rhythm of the franchise’s modern era, providing the on-air framework for how games are narrated from possession to possession. While NBA teams routinely adjust broadcast crews over time, a multi-year extension suggests San Antonio values continuity in how it presents the product, especially for a fan base that follows games closely through television.
The extension also underscores the growing importance of specialized sports media talent. Tobey is described in the report as a “multitalented” broadcaster, reflecting a broader trend in which play-by-play announcers are expected to contribute across formats, not just live game calls. Keeping him embedded with one franchise can help maintain a consistent audience connection across seasons, from the offseason to the end of the regular campaign.
Still, details about the business terms are not available in the information provided with this item, and the specific length beyond “multi-year” was not included. Readers should treat the extension as an announced commitment to the Spurs’ broadcast program, but avoid concluding anything about pay, term, or any additional responsibilities unless further official confirmation is published.
From a team-building perspective, the Spurs have an on-court identity shaped by coaching, roster decisions, and player development, but the franchise brand also has a media layer. A stable television play-by-play presence can matter during periods of change, because broadcasts become the primary storytelling vehicle for new players entering the spotlight and for veteran storylines that carry across multiple seasons.
What to watch next is how the Spurs’ broadcast structure evolves around Tobey’s extended tenure. That includes whether San Antonio makes complementary changes to analysts, studio programming, or production style, and whether Tobey’s role expands further in the organization’s media ecosystem as the team continues to develop its next era.
For now, the clearest takeaway is straightforward: the Spurs will keep Jacob Tobey as their television play-by-play voice for multiple years, keeping one of the most recognizable constants in the franchise’s week-to-week viewing experience.
