Jaguars vs. Texans: Eric Murray is set, but Ross Matiscik and Montaric Brown will miss London
Jacksonville enters Sunday’s AFC South matchup at Wembley Stadium with safety Eric Murray expected to play, while long snapper Ross Matiscik and cornerback Montaric Brown are ruled out.
The Jacksonville Jaguars’ early-season AFC South lead will be tested Sunday at Wembley Stadium, where they are set to face the Houston Texans with one key defensive piece returning to the lineup. Safety Eric Murray is expected to play after being listed without game status on the Jaguars’ Friday injury report.
Murray had missed Jacksonville’s win over the Philadelphia Eagles at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last Sunday, according to the team’s Friday update. The missed game came after he sustained a concussion the week before during a victory at Cincinnati.
Two other regulars will not make the trip. Cornerback Montaric Brown is ruled out after not practicing during the week, and long snapper Ross Matiscik is also ruled out following his shoulder injury that occurred in the first quarter of the Eagles game.
Jacksonville’s special teams personnel include a notable recent addition: the Jaguars signed long snapper Jacob Bobenmoyer on Tuesday. That transaction was part of the team’s weeklong response after Matiscik’s injury.
Beyond the ruled-out pair, the Jaguars’ Friday injury report listed multiple players without game status, including tight end Nate Boerkircher, right tackle Cole Van Lanen, rookie guard Emmanuel Pregnon, and corners Jarrian Jones, Jourdan Lewis, and Jaylon Jones.
Why It Matters
- Jacksonville’s ability to field its secondary in London hinges on Murray’s availability after his concussion absence last week.
- The loss of Brown and Matiscik forces Jacksonville to adjust both coverage and snapping/special teams execution.
- Because the Jaguars have several additional players listed without game status, the final Sunday availability picture still had moving parts late in the week.
