After joining a new NFL team, the former Los Angeles Rams linebacker left behind a pointed reminder for his old locker room, highlighting the urgency he still felt in matchups against Seattle.
Jared Verse’s summer departure from the Los Angeles Rams came with one last emphatic request for the team he was leaving behind. According to Yahoo Sports, Verse told Rams teammates while he was “on his way out” to focus on one priority when the schedule turned toward the Seattle Seahawks. His message, as reported, was direct: “Make sure you beat the Seahawks.”
The statement matters less for any playbook detail and more for what it indicates in NFL culture. Verse was not merely wishing the Rams well in general, he was underlining a specific opponent as a must-win type of moment. For teams in the NFC West, division games carry outsized weight because they can decide playoff tiebreakers and swing momentum for both the current season’s title picture and the way a team measures itself in the same calendar year.
Verse’s context is also personal. The report frames the linebacker as “still rooting for his old NFL team,” suggesting he remained emotionally invested even as his NFL path moved forward elsewhere. That kind of continued attachment is common when players change teams, but it is often most noticeable when the rivalry is close enough to carry added meaning, and NFC West matchups regularly provide that intensity.
The Seahawks-Rams dynamic also has long felt like a barometer for how contenders differentiate themselves within the division. In recent seasons, the teams have frequently treated games between them as leverage points, where small margins matter and where defensive matchups can shape the tone early. Verse’s call to “make sure” speaks to that reality, implying he believed the Rams needed a specific edge against Seattle rather than taking the outcome for granted.
What remains unclear from the available report is which exact new club Verse has joined and what role he is expected to play there. The Yahoo Sports piece identifies him as a linebacker with “a new NFL team,” but without additional published details in the material here, it would be speculation to define his assignment, timeline, or how his move affects the Rams’ defensive structure.
Even so, the reported message offers a window into the psychology of NFL transitions. Players who leave a team before a key stretch often try to leave reminders that reflect their understanding of what mattered most during their time together, and Verse’s focus on the Seahawks suggests the Rams’ internal sense of urgency was tied to division balance, not just general performance.
For Rams fans and personnel evaluators, the next question is how the team handles the emotional continuity without the player who delivered the message. The practical follow-up will be whether Los Angeles treats its divisional matchups with the same internal clarity that Verse emphasized, especially when those games land at moments that can define a season’s trajectory.
Until more details are confirmed publicly about Verse’s new team and role, the clearest takeaway remains the one he conveyed to his former teammates: a divisional win over Seattle was not just another game, it was a statement they needed to make.
