Jerry Jones: Cowboys’ offense is in “good shape” to fix recent scoring struggles

Dallas owner/GM Jerry Jones said the Cowboys are structured to address what stalled the offense over the last two weeks and expects adjustments with play-calling staying in place under coordinator Kellen Schottenheimer.

The Cowboys have scored a combined 29 points in back-to-back losses, and Dallas owner/GM Jerry Jones said Friday that the offense is in “good shape” to correct the problems that have slowed their production.

Jones pointed to the way the staff plans to respond, saying the team is “really structured to address” what went wrong over the previous two weeks. He also framed the situation as part of the natural evolution of an offense as opponents gain more film and look to defend what Dallas is trying to do.

Looking at the bigger picture, the organization believes last season’s baseline production has been disrupted. Dallas finished last season with the second-most yards in the league and the seventh-most points, but through six games it ranks 13th in yards per game and has had less success running the football and creating explosive plays.

Jones said he is “very confident” the Cowboys will make the right changes for Monday night against the Eagles, emphasizing his confidence in Schottenheimer as a play caller. Jones contrasted his preference for a head coach to be specifically responsible for one side of the ball, describing Schottenheimer’s role and credentials as part of why Dallas has had immediate offensive impact.

Schottenheimer echoed that stance in his own comments, saying he would “absolutely not” give up play-calling duties and that the offense has not played well the last two weeks while still being capable of hurting opponents in multiple ways. The Cowboys’ opponents enter the matchup with the Eagles ranked 27th in the NFL in yards allowed per game (363.8).

Why It Matters

  • If the Cowboys can regain their downfield and rushing efficiency, it would help stabilize a season that has recently produced scoring inconsistency.
  • The matchup with an Eagles defense ranked 27th in yards allowed adds urgency to Dallas’ plan to change how the offense operates week to week.
  • The public emphasis on Schottenheimer’s role underscores that Dallas is treating play-calling continuity as part of the fix rather than a retreat from the current approach.
  • With opponents studying a full year of film, the Cowboys’ ability to “change it up” could define how they respond to defensive adjustments in the weeks ahead.
