Jets move WR Omar Cooper Jr. off IR, elevate LB Jaden Keller for Patriots trip
New York reinstated Cooper to the 53-man active roster and brought Keller up from the practice squad ahead of Sunday’s road game against New England.
The Jets have added rookie wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. to the 53-man active roster, moving him from the reserved/injured list for Sunday’s game at the New England Patriots.
New York also elevated linebacker Jaden Keller from the practice squad, with the team indicating Keller will be available for his third consecutive game for the Green & White.
The team said Cooper returned to practice this week after sustaining an ankle injury during the Jets’ Week 1 23-10 win over the Tennessee Titans, a wound that led to his placement on IR. Cooper’s Week 1 usage included a limited role, but his 30-yard reception helped set up the opening-drive touchdown.
Cooper is expected to play in his second NFL game on Sunday. Prior to joining the NFL, he produced a 69-reception, 937-yard, 13-touchdown season at Indiana.
For Keller, the Jets reported he has played special teams in each of his recent games, totaling 38 snaps between the team’s contests against the Bears and Browns. The organization added that he logged 10 total tackles (five solo) during preseason play and that he was added to the practice squad on Aug. 31, released Sept. 15, and then brought back about a week later.
Why It Matters
- The moves adjust the Jets’ receiving depth and linebacker availability for a key AFC East matchup at New England.
- Cooper’s return gives New York another option in the passing game as he prepares for his second NFL appearance after an IR stint.
- Keller’s elevation indicates the Jets value his immediate special-teams contribution and continuity across multiple recent games.
