A new wave of undrafted free agents is trying to earn a roster role, and the New York Jets’ tight end Chase Curtis is the latest focus in a continuing position-by-position evaluation series.
New York’s offseason UDFA class is already being treated like a measuring stick for depth chart battles, and a recent scouting look at tight end Chase Curtis keeps the emphasis on what teams can uncover over the next few months. The Jets, as they add and evaluate undrafted free agents, are using these early evaluations to identify which players can translate college traits into consistent NFL-ready execution.
The Jets tight end group is one of the more complex rooms to break into because it combines pass-game route responsibilities with run-blocking and run-pass identification. A scouting approach like this typically tries to isolate how a player lines up, how reliably he gets into the correct spacing, and whether he can create separation or win leverage when the play tightens at the next level. Curtis is being singled out as the specific case study for this phase of the UDFA evaluation cycle.
The writeup framing matters because it is part of a broader, continuing series covering all undrafted free agents signed by New York. That means Curtis is not presented as a one-off story, but as part of a larger roster-building effort, with the underlying goal of mapping which UDFAs fit the Jets’ offensive and special-teams needs as camps progress.
Because the available information here is primarily the outline and intent of the scouting feature, specific measurable details about Curtis’s past performance, physical profile, or on-field production cannot be confirmed from the material provided. For readers, the most important takeaway is the process: the Jets are investing evaluation attention in undrafted depth, and tight end is a position where small technical adjustments can show up quickly in practice tape.
If Curtis is to make the roster push, the early picture to watch is how he handles the transition from college play speed to NFL tempo. Tight ends who earn roles tend to show they can process coverages quickly, run routes with consistent landmarks, and stay disciplined through shifting responsibilities in both the flat and intermediate areas. Even when a player is not targeted early, how he protects and sustains assignments often becomes the differentiator.
Over the next few months, additional position breakdowns in the same UDFA series will help establish context for where Curtis fits within New York’s broader developmental priorities. For now, the scouting focus suggests the Jets view him as a prospect worth tracking closely during the post-draft evaluation window, particularly as teams narrow their offseason rosters and sort out who is ready for more advanced reps.
