Cincinnati’s quarterback was voted Week 8’s top offensive performer in the fan-driven FedEx Air & Ground NFL Awards, edging other nominated stars after a 462-yard, five-touchdown passing day that included a game-winning rushing score in overtime.
Joe Burrow has been voted the FedEx Air & Ground Player of Week 8, the NFL announced Monday. The award is selected by fans, who vote among six nominees for the top two offensive performances from the previous week.
Burrow, representing the Bengals, joined Packers quarterback Jordan Love as the other Week 8 winner. In the fan voting, Burrow received more votes than nominees including Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins, Buccaneers running back Bucky Irving, Jaguars running back Bhayshul Tuten, and Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs.
In Week 8, Burrow completed 38 of 48 passes for 462 yards and five touchdowns. The Bengals quarterback also ran in the eventual game-winning touchdown in overtime.
The announcement also credited Burrow with a major statistical milestone: it marked the third-fastest pace in NFL history for a quarterback to reach 175 touchdown passes, doing so in his 84th game. Burrow’s 462 passing yards moved his career total to 22,925, surpassing Carson Palmer for fourth place on Cincinnati’s all-time passing yards list.
The NFL described Burrow as the second quarterback in league history to record at least 450 passing yards, five passing touchdowns, and one rushing touchdown in a single game, joining Norm Van Brocklin (1951). It also noted that, entering this week, Burrow leads the NFL in passing touchdowns (20), passing yards per game (302.1), and completion percentage (73%).
This is the third year of the FedEx Air & Ground NFL Awards’ expanded format, which makes wide receivers and tight ends eligible for the weekly honors. FedEx also stated that $2,000 is donated in the name of each winning player each week, for $4,000 total, as part of its partnership with Feeding America.
