John Cowan projected to win GOP primary runoff for Georgia’s 11th House district seat

Republican John Cowan is projected to defeat Rob Adkerson in the GOP primary runoff for Georgia’s 11th Congressional District seat, setting up Cowan to advance to the general election to succeed retiring Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.), according to Decision Desk HQ projections reported by The Hill.

The runoff followed a contested Republican primary in which both Cowan and Adkerson secured enough support to move into the second round. The Hill reported that Cowan and Adkerson each advanced from the earlier field before the runoff.

Cowan, a neurosurgeon, previously sought the House in a neighboring Georgia district, running unsuccessfully in 2020 against former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R). The Hill said Adkerson is the former chief of staff for Loudermilk.

The contest has centered on the nomination for a seat that will be open because Loudermilk is retiring rather than seeking re-election. That makes the GOP primary runoff the key partisan contest in a district that is expected to be decided by the Republican nominee.
