According to the Mariners’ report, the injury occurred on a play involving a double-play attempt on the bases. Rodríguez went first-to-third on a Dominic Canzone grounder, and as Angels first baseman Nolan Schanuel attempted to start a 3-6-1 double play, his throw hit Rodríguez directly off the back of his helmet.

Rodríguez remained in the game briefly after the incident, staying on the field for the rest of the inning following a long visit from Mariners manager Dan Wilson and head athletic trainer Kyle Torgerson. The report described a quick return to action on the bases and then further evaluation moments later, before he eventually exited for the clubhouse.

After that inning concluded, Rodríguez took his position in center field for the top of the second inning. He later conferred further with Torgerson in the dugout, but then left for the clubhouse and did not return, ending his night earlier than Seattle had planned.

The play was hit hard enough to be recorded at 78.2 mph on the throw that struck his helmet, underscoring why the Mariners treated the incident as a potential concussion situation rather than a routine contusion.
