Kentucky rises in AP Top 25 poll as Indiana slips back, Louisville stays unranked

In the latest Sunday Associated Press Top 25, Kentucky moved up, Indiana went in the opposite direction, and Louisville remained outside the rankings.

Kentucky improved its standing in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll released Sunday, according to WLKY, while Indiana fell back in the rankings in what the outlet described as opposite movements between the two neighboring programs. Louisville remained unranked, continuing a stretch in which the Cardinals have not appeared in the national Top 25.

The AP Top 25 is compiled from voting by a panel of sportswriters and broadcasters, and it reflects performance and results up to the point of the voters’ consideration. In the Sunday release, Kentucky’s ranking moved upward, placing the Wildcats back among teams higher on the AP’s weekly list than they were the previous week.

Indiana, which was trending in the opposite direction in the same poll, dropped back in the AP Top 25. The change underscores how quickly national rankings can shift based on recent games, and how voters weigh movement from one week to the next even within the same geographic and conference landscape.

Louisville was not included in the AP Top 25 in the Sunday update, WLKY reported. Being unranked typically means the program is not currently viewed as one of the 25 best teams nationally by the AP’s voting panel, regardless of previous weeks or postseason expectations.

For Kentucky, the rise in the poll provides an early-season or mid-season boost in national visibility that can influence how opponents and media outlets frame upcoming matchups. AP ranking movement also tends to be closely monitored by fans and schools because it affects national attention, tournament and bowl conversations, and the broader media cycle around a team’s schedule.

Indiana’s drop and Louisville’s continued absence from the Top 25 reflect the AP voters’ current assessment of overall performance relative to other teams across the country. With the AP poll updated weekly, the next rankings will again depend on results from games played after this Sunday release, as voters update their ballots for the following week.

Why It Matters

  • Weekly AP Top 25 movement can change how teams are covered nationally and how games are framed by media and fans.
  • Kentucky’s climb increases its visibility in rankings-focused discussions leading into subsequent matchups.
  • Indiana’s drop and Louisville’s unranked status indicate that recent results have not placed them within the AP’s current Top 25 assessment.
  • Because the AP poll is updated regularly, subsequent games can quickly alter rankings again.
