KSP arrests Texas man linked to 36-year-old Hardin County sexual assault; arraignment set in Elizabethtown

Kentucky State Police said a Texas man accused of involvement in a 36-year-old sexual assault case in Hardin County was arrested and is scheduled to appear in court for arraignment in Elizabethtown on July 7. KSP said the suspect, 66-year-old Albert Campriano of Texas, was taken into custody in connection with an alleged attack that occurred in 1990.

According to KSP, detectives alleged Campriano entered a woman’s home in Hardin County and raped her in 1990. The charges presented by the Hardin County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office follow developments from a long-running investigation aided by DNA analysis and database matching, KSP said.

KSP said investigators with the Sexual Assault Initiative (SAKI) and state police began evaluating cases for potential retesting in 2022. KSP reported that a DNA analysis connected to the case was retested, and a match was made in the Combined DNA Index System in May 2026 pointing investigators to Campriano.

The Hardin County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office presented the matter to a grand jury on June 11, 2026, KSP said. The grand jury indicted Campriano on charges of first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy, and first-degree burglary. KSP did not describe any additional evidence beyond the DNA developments in its account.

KSP said detectives traveled to Crystal City, Texas, on June 17 and apprehended Campriano with the help of local law enforcement. After the arrest, KSP said Campriano was extradited to Kentucky for the court proceedings related to the Hardin County indictment.

KSP said Campriano is set to appear at 10 a.m. in Elizabethtown for arraignment and is being held on a $500,000 cash bond. A KSP spokesperson, quoting Detective Barnett, said the case reflects what investigators described as law-enforcement partners pooling resources to bring closure to victims, and that the agency continues to work cases regardless of how much time has passed.

The case is now in the pretrial stage, with the arraignment determining whether Campriano enters pleas to the charges. Until the court proceedings are completed, the allegations remain subject to challenge through the normal criminal justice process.

The arrest also underscores how post-conviction and older-case DNA retesting efforts can reopen investigative leads, according to KSP’s timeline. Investigators said they were able to retest DNA obtained from the 1990 arrest, and KSP linked the suspect to the alleged Hardin County offenses through the later CODIS match.
