The fair, scheduled for July 17 through July 25, will not be held after organizers cited an ongoing water shortage and related capacity limits.
The Liberty-Casey County Chamber of Commerce announced Friday that the Casey County Fair has been canceled “in its entirety,” citing an ongoing water shortage as the reason the event cannot proceed as planned. The cancellation affects the fair dates originally scheduled for July 17 through July 25, according to the chamber’s notice.
Organizers said the decision was made in light of the continuing water shortage, which they described as an issue that prevents fair operations from meeting necessary water needs. The chamber did not provide additional technical details about the shortage in the announcement, but the stated rationale tied directly to the feasibility of hosting a multi-day public event that depends on water access.
The Casey County Fair is typically a major community gathering in Casey County, drawing families and visitors for rides, local exhibits, and other activities during the weeklong period. With the fair now canceled, organizers indicated that planned programming tied to the event will be discontinued for this summer cycle.
The chamber’s action underscores the operational constraints that water supply conditions can create for public gatherings, particularly for events that require reliable water for sanitation, vendor activity, and attendee services. In practical terms, fair organizers typically plan for sufficient water access well in advance, and a prolonged shortage can trigger an inability to meet baseline health and safety requirements.
Officials did not provide an alternate schedule or replacement event in the announcement. Instead, the chamber’s statement focused on the total cancellation of the fair for the July dates, leaving the community to adjust summer plans that had been built around the fair’s calendar.
The cancellation also shifts attention to the broader water-supply issue affecting the region. While the announcement described the shortage as ongoing, it did not specify the source of the disruption, such as infrastructure limits, treatment capacity, or weather-related impacts. Residents and visitors will likely look to local guidance for updates on water conditions and any steps being taken to restore normal service levels.
For vendors, performers, and partners that had planned to participate, the immediate impact is the loss of a scheduled fair venue for the July 17-25 window. The chamber did not specify how contracts, deposits, or participation terms would be handled, and those details may be addressed in follow-up communications.
As of Friday’s announcement, the fair remains canceled for the scheduled dates. The next clear step for the community and local stakeholders will be additional information from the chamber and relevant water authorities on the status of the shortage and whether any smaller events or administrative adjustments will be made before or after summer.
