Toronto will pick eight times in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft, including the league’s top overall spot.
The NHL has officially revealed the Toronto Maple Leafs’ complete draft order for the 2026 NHL Entry Draft, confirming that the organization will select eight times in total and hold the No. 1 overall pick.
Toronto’s position at the top of the draft order has been widely anticipated, but the league’s release turns that expectation into an official selection roadmap for the club’s prospect pipeline. With a first-place slot, the Maple Leafs will have the franchise’s earliest chance to add a generational-level player from the draft class.
The order also shows that Toronto is not limited to a single bite at the apple. Alongside the top pick, the Maple Leafs will have seven additional selections, a structure that can matter as much for team-building flexibility as it does for pure talent acquisition.
Having multiple picks in one draft can help a club address different organizational needs at once, including balancing immediate NHL readiness with longer-term development. In practical terms, draft resources can be distributed across defensemen, forwards, and goaltending prospects depending on the evaluations within the organization.
Even so, a draft order is only the starting point. The actual impact of these picks will depend on who is available when Toronto’s turn comes, how players develop after selection, and whether the Maple Leafs can integrate prospects into their minor-league and NHL pathways without sacrificing roster stability.
For Maple Leafs fans, the central question is how Toronto converts its top-of-the-board position into a core piece for the next several seasons. With the order now officially set, attention will turn to scouting priorities and how the club plans to use the full set of eight selections.
The next key date in the story will be the draft itself, when Toronto’s picks become official selections. Until then, the league’s release provides the confirmed framework, but not the names, for how the Maple Leafs are expected to shape the future of the organization.
