After details tied to Jacobs’ case were revisited and the league began its own review, Green Bay’s head coach said the team will not comment on the process and expects the running back to remain with the Packers. LaFleur also discussed Micah Parsons’ practice return window and the evolving guard rotation up front.
Green Bay head coach Matt LaFleur said Monday the Packers will allow the NFL’s investigation into Josh Jacobs to proceed without organizational comment, while he anticipates the running back will still be on the roster moving forward. LaFleur said he declined to adjust his stance publicly based on the added information, choosing instead to let the league process play out.
LaFleur’s remarks came as Jacobs has played after spending the season’s first six games on the commissioner’s exempt list tied to the league’s review of a spring incident. Over the weekend, local police released a report related to the May incident, which included historical allegations dating back to 2021, and the NFL said it would look into additional prior claims.
In the same availability, LaFleur addressed star edge rusher Micah Parsons’ recovery from last winter’s knee surgery. He said the plan is for Parsons to have a chance to return to practice this week for the first time since the injury, but he stressed there is no set timetable for games.
LaFleur said once Parsons practices, the Packers would have 21 days to activate him to the 53-man roster. He characterized the path from first practice to game readiness as “fluid,” and if he had to guess, he expects it would lean toward the later end of that window rather than the earlier end.
On the injury front, linebacker Zaire Franklin is “day to day” with the shin issue that kept him out of the last two games, and LaFleur said he potentially could return to practice this week.
Up front, LaFleur said the staff is continuing to work through the team’s best guard combination with Laken Tomlinson, Aaron Banks, and Kevin Zeitler in the mix. He said moving Tomlinson to right guard worked well in a recent game, while Banks’ return to left guard after a five-game absence was uneven.
LaFleur also said Zeitler, who signed a month ago, has yet to play, and he emphasized Zeitler continues to improve after missing the entire offseason and training camp. He did not rule out rotating players on the interior during games, and he added that issues on both pass protection and the run game remain fixable through better collective execution and play-calling.
