New York answered a sweep threat with a nine-run finale, a multi-hit day from Bo Bichette and Juan Soto, and a strong mound outing that limited damage to one unearned run.
The Mets avoided getting swept in Cincinnati, delivering a loud series finale with nine runs and a win that broke the momentum of the Reds in a game that mattered for both pride and weekend carryover. After falling behind in the series picture, New York’s response was emphatic enough to erase the sweep narrative and reset the tone as the club turned toward its next chapter.
At the center of the offensive surge were Bo Bichette and Juan Soto, both of whom produced multiple hits again, according to Yahoo Sports’ Mets Morning News recap. The Mets’ ability to get consistent production from their top bats was a key difference-maker in a matchup that otherwise could have tilted toward a clean Reds series win.
Pitching also played a role in the Mets’ turnaround. Nolan McLean, described in the recap as stellar, limited Cincinnati to one unearned run. That matters because unearned runs can flatter an outcome, but they also reflect a strong overall ability to hold down rallies and prevent the inning from turning into a multi-run blowup.
New York’s nine-run total gave the game a clear separation, particularly in the way runs were manufactured over the full frame of the final. Instead of relying on a single late burst, the Mets’ offense stretched innings and supplied enough cushion to keep the pressure on the Reds through the conclusion of the contest.
With the Reds series over, the Mets now shift to Philadelphia. The recap notes that this upcoming trip includes a meeting with the Phillies for the first time this season, making it a high-salience early test of where New York stands against a familiar division opponent.
What to watch next is whether the Mets can turn this series-ending performance into a sustainable offensive baseline, and whether the pitching staff can carry the same control into Philadelphia. Cincinnati’s lineup will present a different profile than the Phillies, so the question becomes less about whether the Mets can have another nine-run day and more about whether they can keep preventing the kind of damage that turns games into long innings.
One caution: the available information is a morning-news game wrap rather than an official box score summary, so the finer-grain details of exactly how the Mets scored each run, and the precise line for McLean, are not fully specified here. Still, the broad takeaway is supported by the recap: the Mets avoided the sweep, generated nine runs, and kept the Reds’ scoring mostly in check.
