New York used a Monday transaction flurry to adjust its 40-man roster heading into the offseason, claiming two right-handers and removing several players while also reinstating key injured-list names from the 60-day IL.
Facing an approaching deadline to make its 40-man roster compliant for the offseason, the New York Mets processed a series of roster moves that included two waiver claims, two losses to other teams, and multiple players removed from the roster after going unclaimed.
The Mets claimed right-handers Jack Anderson from the Minnesota Twins and Pierson Ohl from the Colorado Rockies, adding them to a pitching depth mix as the organization manages its roster space for the coming months.
In the same waiver cycle, New York lost right-hander Cameron Weston to the Miami Marlins and left-hander Philip Abner to the Baltimore Orioles, moves that reduced the organization’s pool of available players under the 40-man constraint.
New York also outrighted infielder Eric Wagaman and outfielder Cristian Pache after they cleared waivers and were not claimed. Wagaman later exercised his right to become a free agent.
To continue working down roster numbers, the Mets signed infielders Christian Cairo and Kyren Paris to one-year split contracts, with different pay depending on whether they are on the Major League or Minor League roster. The club then designated both players for assignment, a sequence expected to allow the Mets to outright them to the Minor Leagues.
With the transaction activity clearing enough space, the Mets reinstated infielder Jorge Polanco and right-handers Tylor Megill and Reed Garrett from the 60-day injured list. All three are recovering from surgeries, and the team indicated they should be healthy by Opening Day.
Looking ahead, New York will also need to add any prospects it wants to protect from the Rule 5 Draft later in November. Top prospect Jefferson Rojas is among those who qualify, which means additional roster moves are expected around that date.
