Mississippi State football added another piece to its Class of 2027, committing Texas-based cornerback J’lynnd Kellow as the program reached a 10th pledge for the cycle. The addition, reported Tuesday by Saturday Down South, is the latest step in a recruiting push that has emphasized defensive back depth as the Bulldogs look toward next fall’s roster building.

Kellow comes from Willis, Texas, a community north of Houston. Listed at 6-foot-2 and 180 pounds, he joins MSU’s secondary as a corner option whose profile fits the Bulldogs’ stated priority of building the defense from the outside in. According to the report, Kellow finished the 2025 season with 46 tackles and two forced fumbles, numbers that contributed to his visibility among recruiting observers.

The commitment marks a decision over multiple programs that extended offers, including Arkansas, Texas Tech and Oklahoma State. Kellow’s choice also followed an official visit to Mississippi State that took place on May 28. In comments relayed by the recruiting outlet, Kellow emphasized the environment at MSU, saying the team culture “really stood out” and that it feels “real” and “family”-oriented as soon as he steps on campus.

From a roster-construction standpoint, Kellow’s pledge further tightens Mississippi State’s defensive back recruiting group. The report frames him as the fifth defensive back addition for the Bulldogs in the 2027 class, joining other 2027 defensive back commitments: Brandon Allen Jr, Hudson Fuqua, Trae’kerrion Collins and Julian McDonald. That means half of Mississippi State’s total 10 commitments are in the defensive back category, a pattern that suggests the coaching staff wants multiple skilled options in the secondary rather than relying on a single recruiting swing.
