After picking up a victory at UFC Fight Night 279, rising UFC contender Najavo Stirling said he is already looking past the next round, with one kickboxing standout from Glory on his radar.
Najavo Stirling is treating his latest UFC performance as more than just a step forward on the scorecard. Following his win at UFC Fight Night 279, the rising contender used the public moment to outline a “fight wishlist,” spotlighting one opponent in particular: a former Glory kickboxer.
In the callout, Stirling framed the target as the standout name among several possibilities he is considering, indicating that his next priority is not simply another UFC matchup, but one that matches his interest in high-level striking competition. Glory, the elite kickboxing promotion based in parts of Europe and internationally, has long been a proving ground for stand-up specialists, and a cross-sport style match has a natural appeal inside the UFC’s heavier-grappling environment.
The UFC context matters here. When a UFC fighter talks up a specific opponent, it is usually an attempt to create a clear on-ramp to matchmaking. Stirling’s remarks suggest he believes the matchup picture can connect his momentum from UFC Fight Night 279 to a clearer pathway toward a bigger name, particularly through the lens of striking pedigree.
Stirling’s public focus on a former Glory fighter also reflects a common dynamic in modern UFC matchmaking: fans and matchmakers often gravitate toward fights that promise stylistic contrast. A former Glory competitor typically brings experience in kickboxing pacing, target selection, and combinations built around kicks and straight punches, while a UFC opponent must account for takedown threats and clinch exchanges that do not exist in the same way in kickboxing rule sets.
At the same time, what is said in an interview does not guarantee what the UFC delivers. Stirring’s “eyes on” comments can be read as a request, an invitation for negotiations, or a way to apply pressure to the matchup market. Actual pairing decisions depend on rankings, event planning, opponent availability, and the UFC’s broader title-picture needs.
Still, there is a clear takeaway for what comes next: Stirling has indicated that the most marketable version of his next fight is one tied to kickboxing credibility rather than a purely incremental step. If the UFC can find the right matchup partner, a former Glory figure would offer a clear storyline, especially for a fighter presenting himself as a “rising contender” after UFC Fight Night 279.
For fans, the most important thing to watch now is whether the former Glory kickboxer Stirling mentioned responds publicly, and whether UFC officials begin circulating matchups that align with that stated target. If that name stays prominent, Stirling’s callout could quickly move from personal wishlist to a legitimate matchmaking conversation.
