Netflix Unscripted Chief Jeff Gaspin Exiting as Streamer Reshapes Reality Leadership

Jeff Gaspin, vice president of unscripted series overseeing Netflix’s reality and competition programming, is exiting the company, Deadline reported in an exclusive published June 10. The outlet said Gaspin told colleagues of his decision moments before the report went to press.

Netflix’s unscripted operation has become one of the streamer’s major content engines, producing and acquiring programs across multiple reality genres, including competition and dating formats, Deadline said. Gaspin’s role placed him in charge of unscripted series at a scale that makes leadership changes notable across the unscripted industry’s talent and production pipeline.

Gaspin’s departure follows a relatively recent pattern of executive movement in Netflix’s live and unscripted leadership. In February 2026, Deadline reported that Sahara Bushue, director of unscripted series and an executive connected to Netflix’s live performance slate, also planned to leave Netflix. Deadline linked Bushue’s exit to Netflix’s experience with some unscripted live and performance titles, noting underwhelming ratings for series such as Star Search, Building The Band and Pop The Balloon.

The latest change also arrives about two years after Netflix appointed Gaspin to its unscripted team. The Hollywood Reporter reported in February 2024 that Netflix added Gaspin, a former NBC Universal Television Entertainment executive, as vice president, unscripted series. At the time, the hire was framed as a significant addition to Netflix’s unscripted leadership bench.

Since Gaspin’s move to Netflix, the streamer has continued adding senior executives to its unscripted organization. C21Media reported in May 2025 that Jenny Falkoff, described as Amazon’s head of unscripted series, joined Gaspin’s team at Netflix.

While Netflix has not publicly detailed the timing of the transition or how responsibilities will be reorganized internally, Deadline reported that Gaspin’s departure was communicated directly to colleagues on the day of the announcement. Netflix’s unscripted releases and production deals could be affected by changes in who oversees slate development and internal approvals, but no immediate replacement or interim structure was identified in the report.

The exits of multiple Netflix unscripted executives also underscore how frequently leadership roles can shift in streaming’s high-volume formats business. For creators and production partners, the next step is likely to be confirmation of who will oversee current development and how projects in turnaround will be staffed as Netflix continues acquiring and producing reality content under its evolving executive structure.
